IPA is an international
non-governmental
organization founded in 1961.
It provides a forum for exchange
and action across disciplines and across sectors.
IPA's Purpose is...
To protect, preserve and
promote the child's right to play as a fundamental human right.
~ Article 31 of the United Nations Convention
on the Rights of the Child
Need for an International Organization:
The well-being of
children is a world-wide concern. Creating social and physical
environments that foster the safety and the healthy development of
children and youth requires global as well as local commitment.
International standards such as the UN Convention on the Rights of the
Child (which includes the child's right to play) can inspire local
community initiatives which in turn give energy to national and
international strategies for change.
IPA's world-wide network
promotes the importance of play in child development, provides a vehicle
for inter-disciplinary exchange and action, and brings a child
perspective to policy development throughout the world.
